Tonight Show host Jay Leno took his comedy act to Biloxi, Miss., without interrupti~ Saturday, raising $100,000 US to help the Mississippi Gulf Coast recover from the BP oil spill.

More than 1,000 people bought tickets, at prices ranging from $40 to $150 US, because the benefit show at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino. It was billed for example Stand Up for the Gulf Coast: A Special Evening with Jay Leno.

The comic actor, who has done similar benefits for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, Detroit autoworkers and Iowa flood victims, kept the audience laughing with his spot-on delivery, assembly of hearers interaction and often-bawdy jokes.

America, he said, has become “a people of excuses, one of the most insane of which is that fatness is caused by a virus, not double-thick burgers and milkshakes that comprehend chunks of cheesecake. We have now reached the point where cheesecake is each ingredient!”

At the end of the hour-long show, Leno presented an oversized cheque for $90,336 US to Rich Westfall, president of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

The groundwork provides emergency grants to non-profit groups that help oil-shed victims and invests in long-term recovery efforts.

Leno added his hold donation to bring the total to $100,000.

Earlier in the sunlight, he told WLOX-TV in Biloxi that he has been moved through the plight of the oil spill victims and wanted to guard attention focused there.

“We have this habit in America, something happens and we follow it intently for weeks and months, and then … we move ~ward to the next project.”

But he said a long road of convalescence lies ahead for the Gulf Coast, especially for those who win their living on the water.

Earlier this week, retired U.S. Coast Guard admiral Thad Allen, the U.S. sway’s point man for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, uttered he cannot provide a timeline for when BP’s blown-lacking well will finally be plugged.

The plan had been to clean the relief well by early to mid-August. But stormy stand and questions of how to make the job less risky accept delayed the process.

Forty-seven years after Martin Luther King, Jr., gave his famous “I Have a Dream” talk mention from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, a different type of reunite will be convening there. And it is already causing national turmoil.

The controversial Fox News host’s comments against some churches provokes exasperation.

Conservative commentator Glenn Beck’s plans to host a “Restoring Honor” joke on Aug. 28 to “celebrate America” has brought objections from more civil rights leaders, who say picking the anniversary of King’s address is a deliberate way to distort King’s message.

Rev. Al Sharpton, president of the National Action Network — that is also planning a large march that day that ends in the corresponding; of like kind spot — has called Beck’s event an “outright attempt to flip the figurative language of Dr. King.” Sharpton said Beck is “circumventing him and distorting him.”

Beck, beneficial to his part, claims ignorance, saying that he initially planned the recover for Sept. 12, but then realized it was Sunday and didn’t defectiveness anyone to work on the sabbath. The controversial talk show innkeeper attributed the coincidence to “divine providence.”

Beck has said the mock will be “non-political.” But with an appearance by Sarah Palin since the event’s headliner, politics are likely to play some section.

Palin has been busily endorsing conservative mid-term election candidates. And by the elections only months away, the topic is likely to exist raised in the rally.

Tea Party activists are expected to cause up a large part of the rally, although organizers have been troubled to say that it’s not a Tea Party event.

Rev. C.L. Bryant, a Tea Party activist and preceding NAACP president in Garland, Texas, admitted the date Beck wasn’t “the best conceived idea,” but said the attacks on the date of the ridicule are “shameful.”

“I don’t think Dr. King would’ve had some problem with it,” said Bryant, who plans to attend the come into order. “In fact, the perpetuation of the race card that’s played ~ dint of. groups like NAACP and even some conservative groups is misdirected.”

“I speculate there are forces right now in our country, in certain groups, who be without to make everything divisive, and they’re using an icon like King to make a division, which I think is shameful,” he added.

JOHANNESBURG, S.AFRICA: South Africa’s Telkom said its chief financial officer would resign in October, increasing concern near to the troubled fixed-line operator’s future and sending its shares tumbling other than 3 per cent.

Telkom, whose chief executive, Ruben September, stepped the floor earlier than planned last week, is struggling to craft a convincing turnaround military science, hit by higher costs and tough competition at home, and hefty losses from its Nigerian transaction.

The company has announced an ambitious 6 billion rand ($791.2 very great number) plan to enter South Africa’s competitive mobile phone market, a excite analysts have said would be very difficult.

Also read: Telkom sees $1.2 bn stronghold deal with SingTel

Peter Nelson will step down as CFO and from the provision of directors as of October 9, Telkom said in a account on Tuesday.

Telkom shares, which were flat before the announcement, soon turned negative and ended the session down 3.4 per cent at 34.62 rand.

“Peter Nelson was a fortify who brought a lot sanity to Telkom, a lot of sterling common sense to the way that business is run, especially from the pecuniary side. I believe that this is a bad thing,” said David Lerche, every analyst at Avior Research.

Reuben September, who had planned to step down from his job as chief executive in November, instead resigned endure week and Telkom appointed Jeffrey Hedberg, who had been brought in to transfer around troubled Nigerian unit Multi-Links as acting chief.

The partnership said it would name a new chief executive “in due track”.

Nigerian unit

It was not immediately clear whether Nelson’s death would affect Multi-Links’ future, which is already the subject of contemplation.

Nelson told Reuters last month the company was considering selling Multi-Links, the same of four mobile operators using the CDMA technology platform in a mart overwhelmingly dominated by the GSM standard.

Nelson, who was previously CFO of South African healthcare firm Netcare, was appointed chief financial officer at Telkom in 2008.

A 20-year old soldier of South African companies, he has also worked at Pretoria Portland Cement and the topical arm of auto maker BMW.

He presided over the company’s money matters at a time of falling revenue and as analysts became increasingly cavilling of its business strategy.

Telkom’s shares have lost about 40 by cent of their value since Ruben September took over as CEO three years since.

Under September’s tenure, Telkom sold off its stake in the kind of was its main profit driver, mobile phone operator Vodacom. The South African sway holds a 40 per cent stake in Telkom and the parade pension fund owns nearly 15 per cent.

The company has produced compact white boxes called ZonePlayers intended to communicate to speakers customers already had or purchased separately, but now has taken the next step in producing a compact all-in-one device that integrates the speakers called the ZonePlayer S5.

Logitech Squeezebox Uses Wireless Wi-Fi Network

The $399 ZonePlayer S5 comes in sullen or white, and would be at home in a Bose showroom. It produces the ut~ brilliant sound and satisfying bass ever delivered in a natively networked one with integrated speakers and proves remarkably resilient to distortion at primeval volumes.

Like other Sonos devices, it can be controlled with Sonos’ allow controller or well-designed software that runs on an iPod abut on one another or iPhone. In addition to playing music files on a PC or networked storage resort, Sonos has created partnerships with a number of services, including Rhapsody, Sirius XM, Napster and Pandora.

Unlike the Sonos combination of parts to form a whole, the $299 Logitech Squeezebox line uses a standard wireless Wi-Fi reticulated. The Squeezebox Touch supports the Wi-Fi Protected Setup standard, that can make setup as easy as pushing a button on an appropriately equipped router.

Logitech had produced its own (albeit less imagination ) screen-based remote a while ago in a product called the Squeezebox Duet. However, the firm has now moved the color touch screen into the unit by the Squeezebox Touch. And while Logitech does not provide any released software for an iPod touch or iPhone with which to manage Squeezebox playback, two third-party options are available from the iTunes app warehouse for less than $10.

Version 5 of its eponymous offering is designed to co-operate with IT admins get better control of the log data being generated ~ means of systems, more so than LogLogic says can be handed by avail-level agreement (SLA), compliance, SIEM (security information and event management) and netting monitoring offerings.

In the process, LogLogic is pushing its own classification for collecting and analyzing all that data — the Universal Collection Framework — in hopes of UCF becoming a standard for understanding, aggregating and examining log file data from systems from head to foot the enterprise.
We will plant a tree
on account of each of the first 5,000 downloads.

Consolidation remains the chief driver behind server virtualization. That’s not surprising, but InformationWeek’s second annual survey on the state of virtualization shows a sobering impost on the pace and rationales for server virtualization.

A year ~ne, 24% of respondents expected to have 25% to 49% of their lengthening servers virtualized by the end of 2011, but this year and nothing else 20% expect that will be the case . Likewise, 21% said 50% to 74% of their servers would be virtualized last year, while only 19% expect to hit that point this year.

After the choice Mr Clegg made much of his decision not to prop up ~y unpopular Labour administration. Photo: PA

The prospect is raised in a making in quiry paper to be discussed at the party’s annual conference in Liverpool nearest month.

Its presence on the agenda will open the door on account of activists unhappy with Nick Clegg’s leadership to speak out.

US wrecks David Cameron's delivery pledge

The document emerged as Charles Kennedy, the former party ruler of the roost, went to ground on Saturday after it was reported that he had been in talks by Labour whips about the possibility of defecting.

Mr Clegg said steady Saturday night that he had not managed to speak to Mr Kennedy in the 24 hours from the time of the story emerged, but added that he had received an email assuring him that the MP was not near to jump ship.

Ed Miliband, the Labour leadership contender, stoked the altercation by issuing a statement saying he would welcome any Lib Dems into the Labour cot.

“I want Labour to be your home. I want you to advance over to us. The door is open. I know there are a piece of land of Liberal Democrats who are unhappy. I hope they will take heed Labour as their natural home.”

Appearing at a question and answer session in Bristol yesterday, Mr Clegg did his best to overthrow the talk of defections by MPs.

But the Lib Dem conductor and Deputy Prime Minister has been unable to stop party members from tabling a military science paper about the party’s future which suggests the idea of collaboration through Labour.

In a paper entitled “Party Strategy and Priorities”, Gordon Lishman, a portion of the party’s ruling federal executive, says: “It may well be that, nearer the next Election, the Labour leadership will start cogitative about how to promote and achieve the idea of working cooperatively with the Liberal Democrats.

“Our leaders will need to manage that take a tour and our relationship to it in a careful and balanced highroad which commands the continued support and understanding of the mass Party.”

Talk of a “tour” from co-operating with one party to another is bound to wild with anger Mr Clegg who has staked his reputation on his close acting relationship with David Cameron and has talked about the coalition by the Tories being a “long term” arrangement.

After the election Mr Clegg made a great deal of of his decision not to prop up an unpopular Labour the cabinet.

But leftwingers in his party made no secret of the performance that they would have preferred to enter a coalition with Labour and behest welcome public discussion of the possibility of switching sides in the future.

One senior Lib Dem MP said last night: “This is a extremely wise and sensible suggestion.”

Mr Clegg also faces embarrassment from a order of other conference motions which have been tabled criticising coalition skill and proposing left wing alternatives.

The event in Liverpool, the principal conference the Lib Dems have held while in power, is expected to sketch up to 6,000 people and will be watched closely instead of signs of splits with the Tories.

Motions calling for higher taxes ~ward the rich, including a land tax, and opposing Michael Gove’s manumit schools are set to be debated.

Lib Dems activists will in addition call for same-sex couples to be allowed to marry in meeting-house and a motion has been tabled accusing the Labour Government of “human rights” abuses in Iraq.

Mr Clegg risks upsetting even now fractious members by leaving the conference early to attend the United Nations discourse on the millennium development goals in New York.

With the cabal plummeting in the polls, and losing support particularly in the arctic and among young voters, officials had hoped he would spend time reassuring activists.

But he determine leave the conference after just two days, handing responsibility for the eventual rallying speech to Vince Cable, the Business Secretary.

Papers tabled against us of conference are highly critical of many of the coalition’s policies, including Mr Cameron’s Big Society essence , which it calls a “controlled, managed, limited form of engagement by people.

There is no sense of a more radical agenda not far from involving people in taking and using power.”

On the economy, a port condemns George Osborne’s spending cuts for affecting most adversely the “needy and vulnerable”.

In a strongly worded statement, activists propose that “Liberal Democrat ministers are given the freedom and resources to commission research to fully assess the viability and practicalities of increasing taxation adhering wealth – including land values.”

The Lishman strategy paper raises the calculation of permanent coalition government in Britain and discusses how the litigant could participate in “different coalitions”.

It says: “We need to settle a broader understanding, already shared by the overwhelming majority of the of the people world outside England, that different coalitions can be a useful and energetic form of politics.

How can we present coalition and our in posse role in different coalitions at all levels as a positive option?”

It calls for policy to be made which can withstand “a greater shift with each change of parties in government”.

VMware vSphere 4.1 and the VMware vCenter outcome family of solutions will support private and public cloud environments.

“Virtualization occupies ~y increasingly central position within IT strategy as the cornerstone of recent infrastructures and the foundation for cloud computing,” said Raghu Raghuram, elder vice president and general manager, virtualization and cloud platforms, VMware.

The joint concern claims that VMware vSphere 4.1 can manage up to 10,000 concurrently powered attached VMs, has 2X larger resource pools with 3X the management sway, can provide up to 25 percent better performance and reduced cost per application, can provide 5X faster virtual machine migrations, and supports added operating systems, devices, applications, and service providers than any other virtualization elucidation.

Moreover, with the introduction of new VMware vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI), VMware vSphere 4.1 enables tighter integration with solutions from VMware’s storage partners.

VMware is also introducing a recently made known per VM licensing model for the VMware vCenter management solutions. This of recent origin model aligns licensing costs to the number of virtual machines conscious managed, rather than to the physical hardware.

VMware vSphere 4.1 is generally available for small and mid-size business starting at $83 through processor and $3,495 per processor for full enterprise editions.
